We come together as mothers and caregivers who refuse to stay silent as we witness the brutal killing of Palestinian civilians who are overwhelmingly women and children. As mothers and caregivers we are horrified by the atrocities being inflicted upon Palestinian children and their families. We know that this issue is not “too complicated” to get involved. We act urgently from a place of love to call for an immediate ceasefire to save as many lives as possible.
We are mothers and caregivers who understand that the carpet bombing of Gaza, including the intentional targeting of hospitals and refugee camps, are horrific war crimes being committed by the Israeli regime. We stand in anti-Zionist solidarity with Palestinian families in their ongoing fight against Israel’s settler colonial regime, a system that has been built and maintained for decades through violent ethnic cleansing, land dispossession, and the denial of Palestinian rights and sovereignty. We know that only an end to the occupation, an end to apartheid and honoring the right of Palestinians to move freely and to return to their land is the only path to an enduring peace.
As mothers we have a unique role as caretakers who advocate on behalf of children, and we are using this broad category of “mothers and caregivers” to welcome as many people as possible into spaces of organizing. We embrace an inclusive understanding of “mothering;” we understand it as a verb, a role, and a specific act of care. If you identify as a mother, mama, grandmother, aunt, caregiver, parent, mentor, or advocate for children, join us.
